Subject:                                 In the Eve of Your Visit to Egypt

Your Holiness;

I am writing to you as the highest Christian authority and as one of the most well-known human rights champions; in the eve of your visit to Egypt, a country that has long been controlled by dictators and frightened by terrorism that is spreading all over the region;

The late terrorist attack on Egyptian Churches on Palm Sunday was the result of the failure of a regime that failed the dreams of all Egyptians in having a safe and prosperous future.

Egyptians strive for democracy passed through several milestones; among them were the Arab Spring and the birth of a democratic dream with the first democratic election in Egyptian history.

It is very clear from all reports issued by several international credible human rights organizations, among them Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, that the bloody military coup led by Mr. Sisi that took place on July 3rd, 2013 shattering this newborn democracy and violating all human values and basic international laws.

Your Holiness;

We would like to remind you that Egypt is being governed by an illegitimate president and government that failed to fight terrorism and used it as an excuse to terrorize its own citizens; where tens of thousands have been unfairly detained for many years, and thousands have been killed, among them hundreds have been killed in extrajudicial targeted killings.

The regime that is governing Egypt by sacrificing its people is spreading fear throughout the region by supporting Assad’s regime in Syria and Isis’ invasion of Libya.

Your Holiness;

While we are wishing you a safe trip to Egypt, a country that is not safe for its own people; please do not forget the prisoners of conscience and the suffering of all Egyptians under this regime, Christians and Muslims alike.

With our best wishes.

Sincerely yours;

Mohamed S. Kamel
Secretary General
Egyptian Revolutionary Council-ERC
